Why Omron? Stories from our customers

03/02/2016

When Mr Pujiono was looking for an automation partner, he knew the qualities he was looking for in an ideal solution. The solution needed to be safe, reliable, require little human interaction, but more importantly, as the Engineering Head for Panasonic Global Energy Indonesia, he needed a partner who could provide a solution that was easy to implement, as well as long-term sales support.

“Because of our operations, we needed both sales support and after-sales support,” says Pujiono. “Our partner needed to have (spare) parts and inventory available in Jakarta, and the solution needed to be both long-lasting and resilient in the face of change.”

“The best quality of Omron solutions? In one word: simple.”

Mr. Pujiono had already used Omron automation solutions in the past, and had been more than satisfied with their reliability. “We were already using Omron solutions in our existing manufacturing line, and had been extremely pleased with Omron’s performance,” says Pujiono. “Omron has been an excellent partner, supporting us very well both in terms of product and technical support. While there are many available options in the market, there’s no point changing for the sake of change: our Omron solutions were already proving extremely adaptable to our business requirements.”

Mr Ignatius Rahmad, however, was looking to fulfill a different set of requirements. “For us, our ideal solution needed to be implemented within 3-4 months, while also allowing us to conduct testing during the implementation process”, says Rahmad.

As Assistant Engineer of Machinery, Rahmad was tasked with implementation of a balancer machine project for PT Asmo Indonesia, an auto parts industrial manager. PT Asmo needed a sensor and controller for the robot systems in their production line in order to increase the productivity of their machines.

“Omron’s variety of applications were easy to install and implemented within our ambitious timeline. Best of all, our control system is now up to date, machine efficiency and productivity has also increased.”

“Omron’s solutions performed well beyond our expectations,” says Rahmad. “Within 2-3 months, we were already implementing, testing, and running the project. The fully-automatic system proved extremely simple and easy to operate: having all functionality available within a single package control system made for far more efficient, effective management of production processes.”

“Omron’s variety of applications, especially the control systems and servos for our machine processing systems, were easy to install and implemented within our ambitious timeline. Best of all, our control system is now up to date, machine efficiency and productivity has also increased.”

Mr. Sulasdi, as the Assembly & Painting Maintenance Manager for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, needed to meet productivity targets through upgrading their existing system. Doing so would require a smooth transition without affecting Toyota’s current operations.

“We needed to upgrade our old controllers and our existing painting and assembly line to be interconnected with different individual machines,” Sulasdi explains. “This would allow data communications to implement Poka Yoke (Error free) system and Andon (Error Signalling) status in production. And we needed the solution to be easy-to-use, perform reliably and have a long product life cycle.”

This comprehensive – some might say challenging – set of requirements failed to faze Sulasdi. After all, he already had a total solutions provider in mind.

“Omron has a great track record with Toyota globally for its product performance,” Sulasdi says. “In Indonesia, besides being competitively priced, there was also a strong local team providing full support for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, making Omron our preferred partner.”

Implementing the solution delivered all the benefits Sulasdi hoped for: “Productivity increased when we applied a new mode of production line monitoring via Omron’s networking solution. Omron’s strong support team is always readily available with local expertise, which will ensure a smooth step-by-step upgrade of the new system within the next 2 years. The product quality and lifespan offered by Omron is, especially for its controllers, second to none.”

Manufacturing is a major industrial function in Indonesia, and automation solutions are becoming commonplace when it comes to raising productivity and efficiency. Not all automation solutions are equal, however. For these two Indonesian managers and happy customers, Omron’s solutions proved a happy choice.
